The Story behind 4Paws Cattery
A touch of fate
7 years ago, Daniel and Briony moved out together to the leafy outer eastern suburbs. several days after moving into the house a very small and timid cat arrived and met Daniel at the back door. Assuming the small 2kg cat was the neighbours new addition, we left her alone and enjoyed seeing her sitting around the back yard. over the course of the next couple of weeks the tiny little cat seemed to be always in the backyard and never left our back yard. We decided to bring the cat inside on an extremely cold night and gave her some food and water. For such a small cat, you would not believe how much she ate and drank. It seemed like 3 days worth of food and water.
A sick little kitty
We let her back outside and she walked straight over to her regular sleeping spot in our back garden in what is best described as a kids outdoor playhouse. Over the coming few weeks, we become extremely fond of our new fury companion. One night, the tiny little bundle of joy was nowhere to be seen. The following few days the same lack of company from our new companion started to concern us. That night, we heard a loud and angry cat fight, so after some searching, we found a limp and tired little cat who had been attacked. We decided the best option was to take the cat to our local Vet at Wantirna Mall where we found out she was not registered, vaccinated or looked after in any way. As this cat was not registered, we were forced to say good bye to her as she was taken to the RSPCA.
A nervous few weeks
We were forced to say good bye to our newly found friend to the RSPCA. As it turned out, we would be eligible to adopt her if she was not collected or found to be a stray. This was a very nervous time for Briony as the little fury companion had become part of our lives. After a number of weeks and 5 nervous calls to the RSPCA, Misty was officially adopted and registered. We have both had a passion for animals throughout our lives and the opportunity to adopt our tiny little fury friend was a great day. As it turned out, our fury little friend was not a kitten but was about 18 months old and a tiny 2.4kg. We have since fattened her up but Misty is now a huge part of our lives and has a huge personality and a fondness for us.
A holiday for the family
After some hard time working full time jobs, we decided it as time for a holiday. We decided that a 2 week holiday would be nice and decided that a 2 week visit to a local pet hotel would be appropriate for Misty. After looking at a number of local cat boarding facilities and Vet clinics, we were slightly disappointed that there were very limited choices. Many of the choices were extremely small and we felt that we wanted more for Misty. An environment where she was comfortable and would enjoy her own space and time. This was the motivation for starting 4Paws Cattery where cats would enjoy their own space in a comfortable and large Pet Hotel with that extra bit of care that comes from being a pet lover and going the extra distance when building a cattery.
